Pookkarathara, September 9, 2026: The Department of Psychology at K.V.U.M.D.H.O. Arts and Science College for Women, Pookkarathara, organized an orientation programme on September 9, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Seminar Hall. The programme aimed to introduce students to practical aspects of psychology and the career opportunities available in the field.
Two experts from InCare, Nariparamba, participated as resource persons. The first session was led by Hameeda Shirin, Psychologist and Behaviour Therapist, who addressed the topic “Counselling and Psychotherapy.” She discussed the basic concepts of counselling, various approaches to psychotherapy, ethical considerations in therapeutic practice, and the role of psychologists in promoting mental health. The session helped students gain insights into the practical experiences and challenges involved in the counselling profession.
The second session was conducted by Abisha Sherina Beevi M.P., Psychologist and Child Developmental Therapist, on the topic “Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Child Psychology.” She explained neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and learning disabilities, focusing on their symptoms, early identification, intervention strategies, and the role of psychologists in supporting the overall development of children.
Students actively and enthusiastically participated in the programme. A question-and-answer session was held at the end of the sessions, providing students with an opportunity to clarify their doubts and interact with the resource persons. The professionals also shared valuable insights from their practical experiences, making the programme informative and engaging.
The orientation programme proved beneficial in enhancing students’ understanding of key areas of psychology and providing them with a practical perspective on the profession and its career opportunities.
